Dead plants

When I received my plants, they were so dead that I couldn't even get them from the shipping bag. This was the worst cruelty to plants that I have ever seen. These plants were a joke. I will never order any more plants from you. I would like to have a refund on this order. Please put the funds on my card that I used when I ordered.

Bad products and customer support

I used to talk highly about Burgess in social media and share good stories with people that were unhappy with them. Now I've spent a lot of money and probably 80% of the plants never grew. Their warranty requires the customer to keep the packing label, which usually comes on a plastic bag the plants came in and returning that with the dead plants for them to do anything. Myself and many others did not keep that packing label, especially since our orders are stored in their records. Also, it makes no sense to send back the dead plants and have to incur even more expenses with no way of knowing how they will resolve the issue. Most companies would just send replacements or give back the money, even if it's just as credit. I haven't gotten responses from them to my past letters I've sent. So here is a copy of what I sent them today. "Waiting on an order still. I see I was charged, but no tracking order. Also, probably 80% of my orders I received have not grown. In a couple instances they started to and died off, but most have never shown any sign of growing. I didn't realize you expect the packing label to be shipped back with the dead plants. Apparently many others I've read complaining about your company have a similar complaint. I liked using your company, but if most of the plants won't grow and your warranty requires sending back the dead plants and incurring more expenses is what is required, then it makes no sense for me to continue ordering from you. I'm not sure what your feelings are about retaining customers, but something needs to change for me and many others to have trust and faith in your company. Check sites like PissedConsumer.com to see many complaints about you. Unfortunately, this COVID-19 thing has made business rough, but what stands out is companies that have very poor customer service and either ignore or fail to respond to customers. Yours is not the only one, but when this is over, the ones that make an effort to provide and improve customer services are the ones that will bounce back. I used to talk highly about your company in social media, despite all the people upset with you, but now I'm in that same category. I have a yard full of dead plants that I paid you good money for. I hope you take this response to heart and do what you can to improve your service and make things right for your customers."

Does not honor their replacement committment

I ordered a number of burning bushes and 4 clematis vines. The items were shipped much earlier in the spring than most plants Ive received from other garden supply merchants. I planted the items and all of the burning bushes survived as they were established. The clematis vines were just tap roots and didnt survive a late hard freeze. I sent the original manifest as they require and explained the situation requesting they resend the clematis vines. Not a peep! Would never order from them again and dont recommend.

Unacceptable order completion time

Yes, we have heard from Burgess, but the time for order to be filled is possibly another two to four weeks. Initial order was April 24 for 35 strawberry plants. This is sure not the way to please customers.

Burgess Seed And Plant Company - Waiting and Waiting
My bigness complain is the lack of response from my emails and cant connect to them via phone. However, my story is I placed an order almost 2 months ago. After 4 weeks of waiting i wrote them an email inquiring about my order. Some days later i get a response telling me that they were packing my order. Plus this is when they charged my credit card. So i am excited and cant wait to get my order. 10 days later i get my order. 5 crummy watermelon seeds. Paid 80 dollars or them. I doubt if ill Get 80 dollars worth of Mellons. ....Lol.... I have been trying to cancel my order ever since.

Cancel order

Placed an order on March 28, 2020 with a promise of receiving said order in 2-3 weeks. I have yet to receive my order. I want to cancel my order and receive a refund of $88.09. Please take me off your mailing list. I am very disappointed in your company. I'd like to receive my refund on my credit card as quickly as you placed it.

Very unhappy

We ordered your tomato trees. They came yesterday in critical condition. one was broken off. two were bent to no return and the last one had black dead leaves (which were the only leaves on anything). I have ordered for years from your company. this is the worst thing I have EVER received from you. Is this a sign of the times? I hope not! I do have another order coming, I hope they arrive in better shape than these arrived. We had purchased everything needed to plant these tomatoes but I dont have much hope for them. I have always recommended your company but I will be hesitant now, I hope things improve or I will find someone else to order from. Sincerely Patricia

Bought nursery stock from them

I bought 4 butterfly bushes and 2 Tree Hydrangea from Burgess. The butterfly bushes had some buds and dry leaves when they arrived, tied together in plastic bags, about 12" tall. Way too cold to plant outside in mid March when they arrived , so I potted them in big pots with good black soil. Within a week they sprouted green leaves and appear to be doing well so far. However, the hydrangea, while a bit taller, were taped together with glass strand tape which was very difficult to remove without harming the stems, but I managed with a tiny embroidery scissors. They are completely dry, but I have had success with bare root stock before, so I did the same thing, planted them in big pots with good black soil. They are at a 6ft tall window where all the plants can get full sun ( when the sun is out!) I am not hopeful on the hydrangea, I can't even scratch the bark to see if there is green underneath as the stems are so thin, I fear causing damage to an already dormant, stressed plant. I will wait patiently as I have hydrangea outside that are not woken from sleep either, and see if they come awake. Overall, my biggest complaint is the packing method, shipped in a bag and not a box, allowing for plants to get very rough treatment in the mails. They came regular USPS mail.

Poor quality

Last year I ordered grape plants and fruit trees. They arrived with one broken and others mere sticks that were stuck in the ground until a few roots showed. Nothing survived. I kept the shipping label (a must for replacement) and sent for replacement. They replacements did arrive and I am awaiting whether any of these plants are viable. These replacements were actual trees and vines with a root. Spend your money elsewhere. Below is a review of Farmer Seed and Nursery that I found. "Ok, so I am replying to all those who are posting on all sites against our negative experiences. I have googled Farmer seed & nursery and have come to realize that they are all part of the same group that are sending different catalogs and even emails. They are all listed on the same street. The problem I am seeing is the company is scamming people by saying they are different nurseries. I have seen more complaints about not being able to get calls through, and about if they don't save the shipping label the company wont honor their return policy. I have about 8 twigs that are supposed to be live plants and now I am seeing all these different catalogs are the same people. So here are all of the names, 1. Direct Gardening, 2. Farmer seed & nursery, 3. Exciting Gardens, which is run through on your debit card as Richard Owens Nursery, 4. Four Seasons and now I see on here, 5. Burgess"

Pear trees not producing.

Planted a Bartlett and Kieffer Pear about 7-8 years ago. They grew wonderfully and have blossomed beautifully the last 3 years. However, the resulting pears are the size of small peas and remain that way all summer, even if I cut them back. I suspect they sold me ornamental pears instead of fruiting pears, either on purpose to make more money or by accident.

I placed and paid for an order April 20 and still have not received it. I have tried every day to call and all I get is a busy number. Would like to know if I’m going to receive an order or if I need to turn this over to the attorney general.

Stupid old man.

I ordered my plants,bushes, seeds, and bulbs middle of last month. I called to make sure they received the order, and to get an approximate shipping date. I was told to expect 2-3 weeks. I was told i would know their being shipped when the money comes out of my account, so cool. They took my money over a week ago, my growing season is here right now. And now they tell me they have no idea when it will be shipped. *** i was going to make another order this year so as to make sure that next year i would have food coming out of my ears, because we have so many needy families and i feel the need to help feed others in my small town, especially our seniors. They blame the weather, and farmers. Why, when everyone else KNEW!!!!! that a prolonged winter would mess things up didn't they make other arrangements. I sure as *** had to when my customers ordered something that my main supplier was out of it. They say i can cancel my order, but i read it may be weeks to maybe get my money back. I didnt want the money. I WANT MY FOOD. now. My growing season is 90 days, not 190. I have to start everything in my house so that it will ripen before first frost. Not this year. What the *** am i going to eat this winter, the friggin weeds out of my yard! I mean i do that anyway, but i dont grow enough weeds in my yard to put away for a long winter. I will never buy from them again. I am forced retirement, so fixed income. I try to grow most of our own food, or perma-culture it. Their first LIE was they wont take money till ready to ship. They took money, no plants. We ship when planting season is ready in your area, i started planting trees beginning of last month. Second LIE. the third lie was 2-3 for delivery of trees, bushes, bulbs, and seeds, now they have no idea when, or if they'll ship in time for me to plant. We have two weeks of cool planting season, then gets real dry, and real hot. Very hard on baby plants. I feel like the stupidest moron to save up my money to get a communities worth of food, just to be lied too, used for their own means, and be mistreated just because i was foolish enough to trust the same people my folks, and grandparents trusted. No time left to rescue most of my growing season. If i could ruin their business the way they've ruined my winter food preparation i sure as *** would, but how. Do not buy from them. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Extremely long delivery time

Well over a month ago I placed an order for Strawberry plants. This time of year I expected to receive them within 2 to 3 weeks. I have not received them yet. I have called two times and the service desk cannot give me any details when to expect the delivery. They say due to bad weather at their location they cannot dig the plants. I just happened to read reviews on their service and I was shocked at all the bad reviews and most were for extremely long delivery times. And I told the service person about the reviews I read. Their sale prices were good but I doubt I will ever place an order with Burgess again

They would not respond

I was serious about ordering from them they seemed to have a lot of products that I wanted that I could not find elsewhere, but with all the overwhelming number of complaints, I decided to write to them to see why, I know you can't everyone happy, and with a large company there are going to be some that a dissatisfied. So, I wrote to them a week or more ago to see why so many complaints. Maybe there was a real explanation, They have never responded back. Maybe they are way to busy filling orders and just have not had the time. But if that is the case, then the customer support would be at the bottom end Even if they would have made up a good lie I may have still ordered, but to just not respond, tells me that all the complaints are true. I am sure me not ordering will not hurt them in anyway, but maybe if the word gets out and sales start to go down, then maybe they make some changes or not. So wont be ordering from them.
