Never recieved plants.

I made two very substantial orders at the same time totaling 438.06. 197.79 was destined for my address and 240.27 was to go to my mother-in-law. My part of the order never arrived. The portion for my mother-in-law was a few dry sticks. I contacted burgess on July 16, 2012 and they said that they would ship replacements at the time that they would normally ship the trees. I contacted Burgess again earlier this year to find out why the replacements have not arrived and I was told that it was because I hadn't called them. Their policy was to request in writing providing invoices from the packaging. Which I did. Now, it has been 17 months and I have received nothing from these people.

Ordered Pink & White Angel Trumpet plants

Ordered Yellow, White and Pink Angel Trumpet plants on 3/12/2011. Received plants labeled yellow, pink and white. All had yellow blooms. Last year one bloomed. The pink and white labeled plants,which were much smaller bloomed this year. They all bloomed yellow which is the common Brugmansia color. These plants are not hardy and had to be overwintered in the greenhouse here in Connecticut. I am extremely annoyed (pissed) because I have never seen a white or pink Brugmansia and took great care to bring them to bloom. The time and expense far exceeds the sale price and shipping costs. I somehow feel there was more than negligence involved here by the Burgess Seed & Plant Co.

Same thing, ordered white angel trumpet last year, it is yellow. This year I ordered two pink, after raising them all summer....yellow again, I feel ***. Two years gone.....they are otherwise all great healthy plants, just not color coordinated in my landscape.

Customer service lacks

Looking for assurances that ever-bearing strawberries purchased and planted in March 2012 are in fact ever-bearing strawberries. Plants failed to produce summer 2012 and thus far only one crop of berries June 2013. Company response to my calls write a letter. Two written thus far with impersonal unsatisfactory answers. Even sent in two pulled plants in a zip lock bag at the rep's request addressed to a manager named Grace Avery. Response came back with my letter marked "bag of mush." Nothing personal written from Ms. Avery or anyone else. What a scam. Quick to take my money and good at wasting my time! Never again! Save your money and go to your local nursery. Be treated as a person!

To say I am disappointed with Burgess S&P is an understatement.

I ordered 48 9"to 15" Hemlocks. I received 37 and one was so tiny it only had 5 needles!

None were 9" let alone 15".

I phoned many times before I got a reply but there was no supervisor available and instead of just sending me the missing 11 hemlocks and keeping a customer happy, I now have a number of hoops to jump through in the hope of receiving my plants in the distant future. I say distant as I am still waiting for two other orders which to my way of thinking are long overdue.

One other example of customer service. I asked for the name of the owner of the company and was told first of all 'Nancy Grace' which I queried as she is so busy judging people on CNN.

I w23as then told (after a 5 minute wait)'Avery Grace'.Apparently he or she is 'Grace Avery'. I have admitted defeat but am still hoping to resolve my problem of the missing hemlocks or I shall have to put up with a short hedge and a permanent reminder of Burgess Seed and (tiny) Plant Co.

I have been trying to communicate with So called Grace Avery . What a terrible way to run a so called nursery !!

.. My Blackberrys arrived DEAD, DRYED OUT ROOTS TORN BAD. Sent all the necessary paperwork And picturs they say never Got it . And I put two stamps on it.

Yea right they got it ok.

Just do not want to deal with it. What a rip off company .

I will never order from them again

I find it nearly impossible to believe this company got ANY positive marks at all. I ordered several holly plants, a "cherry tree" and an "apple tree." By tree they mean a tiny little stick essentially. I get that dormant plants some that way, so whatever. Fine. I was disappointed it was SO tiny, but I guess for the price it was acceptable. Well, the cherry tree and apple tree were super dead, not dormant. Following the directions precisely did nothing. Never mind that the areas we chose to plant in were already inhabited by healthy versions of similar plants, but these plants from Burgess Seed did nothing. A few of the hollys are kind of hanging in there after we had to spend extra money from a real gardening supply store to spruce them up weeks after we had nearly given up on them. My husband and I figured it was no biggie, we would call and have them replaced, just like anytime anything has ever happened online. We make almost all of our non-local purchases online instead of going to the big box stores for items. Any exchanges are always done in a friendly manner with many apologies. The first customer service rep I spoke with got mad and verbally, notably angry when I first called her out saying that she has a record of my sale. She was trying to tell me I had to provide proof of purchase along with a letter through THE MAIL asking for a replacement. I couldn't even believe it. She said if I had read the fine print, I would have known to keep my old shipping label. I said I'd be happy to pay for new shipping or even to pay to ship the dead plants back as proof and pay for new ones to be shipped. Essentially, it wasn't about cash at this point, it was a matter of principle, of which, i feel this company has NONE. It's really no wonder the woman who "helped me" was so miserable, she probably hears nothing but calls from angry people who wasted a few hundred bucks on plants from this *** company. So then, I get transferred to a supervisor. His name was Wayne. He was condescending and actually seemed to think that it was fair practice to demand "proof of purchase." I was like, "why should i provide proof of purchase when you know for sure I purchased it because you're staring right at my order on the computer screen?!" or something to that effect. But he insisted. I asked if he had a supervisor. But alas, not one he could transfer me to. But if I wanted to send a snail mail to "Grace Avery," she is above him in rank. Eh. At this point, I'm not going to waste my time writing snail mail when this company already had every opportunity to be decent like most online companies are and stand behind their product. All this activity tells me is they know they sell junk. I'd rather waste my time letting everyone know how these people operate. I even told them I would blog, facebook and review this company if they wouldn't do the right thing. He said he's perfectly within his rights because that's policy. I told him I get that. I get that he's legally under no further obligation. Bla bla bla. When did ethics fly completely out the window though? I'm so sick of people like these people. If you get a thrill out of gambling with your hard earned money, this is the place to go. BUT... If you want to be treated like your satisfaction even remotely matters, Burgess Seed is absolutely NOT the place to go. I hope they keep wasting their money sending me sales junk mail though, because every time I get a piece of their advertising trash, I will use it for free kindling...

Interestingly enough, Grace Avery does not exist. It is a made up person and your correspondence to "Grace" will never be read.

Replacement of first shipment ordered that nothing grew when planted

got replacement bare root plants that were mold covered and rotten black eyed Susan and a replacement for Shasta daisy, for clematis, that I have no use for and more sedum that are no better than the first shipment. I am simply giving up dealing with Burgess and placing this as fair warning to others, DON'T bother with this company a guarantee to replace bad plants with more bad plants is simply keeping the post office busy and you wasting postage and the frustration of never getting a plant to grow. I will be going to Meijers next spring and buying potted growing plants.

Dead plants can't grow

I ordered from Burgess and received bare root sticks that where dead. The company refused a refund plus I am having no luck in getting replacements. They are impossible to talk with as all you are connected to is a phone room with people who know nothing about plants and gardening. If you want to find your patience tempted beyond that of Job, buy from these charlatans............. You give away your hard earned money and have nothing in the end to show for it. I followed their instructions to the letter and nothing lived I ordered. I sent everything back according to their instructions and still have yet to get satisfaction. Telling them you are ready to post complaints all over facebook, twitter, file with the BBB; nothing gets their attention. Don't be fooled by the pretty pictures in the catalogue either! Those same picts are used in multiple mail order cats come to find out.

Order of plants

I placed a order totaling $91.00 for plants and then was told that they could not ship them to me because of the weather so I gave them a week and when I called again was told that they did not know when I would get them so I asked for them to cancel my order. I was told that I would have to send a written letter to cancel my order I did that the very day that I was asked to send one. I then was told they would send my request to customer service department and they would refund my money. Well the next week I received 2 plastic bags with dead limbs inside and 2 package of seeds and some dead roots to something. I called and told then what I received and they told me to send the original labels back to them, I asked did I need to send the dead things back and was told no just the labels so I did and then I called them again and was told that I had to send the dead things back but by then I had gotten rid of them THEY WERE DEAD and not dormant. But they have refused to give me my refund to date and I don't really expect to get a refund after talking to really terrible custmer service. I will never order from them again and anyone that is thinking about ordering I would reconsider that you not because you will not get what you order or not get anything at all.

Didn't get what I ordered

I ordered 5 Clematis that were suppose to be in pots, what I received were 5 bare root plants in little plastic bags with maybe a teaspoon of potting soil with them. I did what they said, I soaked them in water overnight then I planted them. They have been in the ground for 3 weeks and have shown no sigh of growing. I complained to the company and they told me that their products are guaranteed if I had the original shipping receipt, well no I don't that was 3 weeks ago, besides why would I want 5 more bare rooted plants when they were suppose to be potted.

Dead fruit trees

I ordered an assortment of fruit tress from Burgess in the fall of 2012. I planted the trees the next day after receiving them. The trees had proper care during the following season. Not one of the trees lived....not a bud or leaf on any of them. I called the company and was told I had to have a receipt to get replacement or a refund. The CSR was quite short with me. I ordered the trees 9 months ago...silly me....I don't have the receipt. ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! !!! !!!! !!! !!

Trees turned out to be not what was ordered

I ordered two apricot trees two years ago from Burgess Seed and Plant company. Though they were much smaller than advertised, I planted them carefully and I took care of them faithfully. Imagine my surprise when these two years later, they they turned out to be plum trees, which I could've dug up on the side of the road here in Alabama. They grow wild in many areas here. I called their customer service and they said I needed the invoice to give me consideration. They were not very understanding when I called. I will not order from them again!! Buyer beware.

No One really cares at Burgess!!!!!!

No One really cares at Burgess!!!!!! I ordered JUMBO seed packs for item #5250 JUMBO Pack Red Chianti bell pepper, #6653 JUMBO Pack Yellow Monster bell pepper, and #6677 JUMBO Pack Horizon, Orange bell pepper…..I received packages MARKED jumbo, but the seed weight is identical to the single package I ordered (3.1 grams) they are NOT jumbo packages..Since I was charged for the Jumbo size and these packages are marked as such, but in fact only contain the “Package” size weight of seed, this amounts to FRAUD.. When I called Sat. 3/23/2013 to resolve this, I spoke to Toby first, then ask for his manager as he could not solve my problem, and got Tammy, claiming to be a supervisor, which insisted I send in the ORIGINAL packing slip or credit card proof of purchase to resolve the issue...I could not send the packing slip as I HAD ALREADY sent it, because I had received a damaged green house……….When I called back to explain this I got MARY, very rude, would not let me talk to Tammy again, and insisted they had done all they were going to do..I ask for her manager and was told they didn’t have a manger….After at least 6-8 times I insisted on the name of the “nonexistent “ manger, I was finally give Grace A.... name, though I feel certain this isn’t a manger either…..since I had already be told lies and various stories to get me off the phone..I find all their people rude and unaccommodating to customers……. DO NOT DEAL WITH BURGESS SEED THEY ARE A RIPP OFF AND HAVE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE...

False advertisement

Ordered plants and trees. Of the trees and plants ordered, only one came in with roots. All others were dead. Burgess makes it difficult to deal with them in returns. The best way to get your money back is to dispute charge on charge card and you will get all your money back to go elsewhere to get GOOD plants and trees. Burgess sends only 3-4 inch stems, some with and without roots.Don't buy from Burgess,go elsewhere, or your doomed! I went to Orcherd and received plants and trees 1-2 years old for pennies less. Check out other merchants before buying from Burgess, you deserve it.

Did not get my complete order. Can't make Contact

I emailed an order to Burgess Seed and Plant Co. on 9/1/2012, received my order on 9/17/2012, but the order was missing 2 trees and the shipping label was marked that they were in there. Also, none of the free items were in the order either, but I just really wanted what I paid for. I immediately tried to call them, to make them aware the order was not correct. After 2 days of busy signals, I gave up and emailed them, that took another three days for them to tell me to send the label and a message telling them what the problem was. That was mailed on Sept. 21st, and I have heard nothing from Burgess since. I have tried to call them to get the status of my order, but as usual the line is busy, so I have emailed them again, and am waiting for a reply. I told the email person I would like a refund for the merchandise not received, if it is not her by next week. Weather is changing and we are running out of planting time.

Burgess seed & plant co. ripped me off

I made an order to Burgess Seed early this year totaling around $56.00. It was in early May that my order arrived, packaged in a bag & sent through the post office. I soaked & planted everything as instructed. The pear tree never showed a leaf The flowering cherry made a liitle puff of leaves on the top, then died. The blue rose bush (it was pink not blue ) made some leaves & a couple of flowers then died. None of the free bonuses ever came up. And one of my blueberries (supposed to be the hardyest )died. I gathered them up as they died and sent them back to Burgess in a box & on my dime. I got back a check payable to burgess for 27.93 and a note that said they would send me a catalog asap. I suppose I'll have to pay shipping on that too. If I don't get a catalog soon I will miss the fall planting season. will never recomend this co. to anyone!

Burgess Seed and Plant Company

I ordered over $700.00 worth of plants, trees and bushes from this company. Almost half of what they sent was dead within a week of receiving. When I sent an email, no one replied. I then called and when I spoke to their representative, he acted as if he just didn't care and my order was not important. He said I would have to have the original shipping label and that's the only way they will do anything. My shipping label was wet when I received it so you couldn't read it but I sent it anyway and of course since they couldn't read it, they wouldn't do anything. I asked if he could look the order up but he said they had thousands of orders so they couldn't do that. Even I can go to their site and pull up my order. There were 4 climbing roses that they said were back ordered and would be delivered in June. Last week I received a box from them with 4 plants and no invoice so I can only assume these are the roses. Needless to say they were already dead. I refuse to ever do business with them again and am going back to Michigan Bulb Company. When I had one tree that was dead, I called them and they sent me 2 more with no questions asked. Burgess Seed and Plant Co does not care about you since they receive thousands of orders. Well they have one less to rip off in the future and I just hope this saves you from their shady business practices.
