Burgess Seed And Plant Company - Fruit Trees Review from White Pigeon, Michigan

Ordered 8 Fruit trees 3/17/2015. I starting trying to call them 4/15 every other day always a busy signal. Never get thru. Finally get somebody sat 4/25. Said order was shipped 3/30. An they have to track order to see what happen. Told me wait 2 weeks an call back. Well if they actually ship an order you should get a tracking #. So call 4 times 4/29 til got thru. Asked for a tracking number on my order. Said we don't give that out. When I asked what happened to order I was told shipped on 4/30. She responded who ever I talked to must lied. Now she claims my order was finally shipped 4/29. So I ask for tracking #. Was told we don't give that out like most companies. I was told I should be here in week. I believe I was lied to again since they do not give me tracking # or anything other then a name that a called. I ordered same day 3/17 from Gurneys 4 trees that came 3 weeks later nicely packed in plastic with shred newspaper to keep roots moist in a long box. You can get much nicer trees in pots from local Nursery 6 ft tall an many branches with buds an leaves. Seeds from catalog are fine. But actual plants like trees, bushes any berries get locally. Thru mail just sends you a stick with roots an normally 1 out 3 actually lives.

Scam

Company took money out of my account and I got no product-- I Tried to call the company and only got a busy signal then I was disconnected. This has gone on for one whole week now. Will now attempt to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Illinois. Contacted my bank and they gave me name of Richard Owens as the owner or registered agent not sure which. I will never order any thing else on line. My bank will hopefully give me my money back and go after them for the cost. They wanted me to contact Richard Owens first but even that did not work.

Unbearably slow, dead plants on arrival

Ordered some plants ( $147.00 ) in late March. After 3 weeks contacted customer service to inquire about how long before I would receive my plants, they were rude,& said they couldn't help. Asked to cancel order, plants kept coming, they wouldn't cancel order, the plants that have arrived ( I have received 3 out of 17 items ordered) are in VERY poor condition, half dead. Emails to their "customer service" take 3-4 days for a response, & then, they don't answer your concerns. When you call on their "customer service" phone, they say that they can't help you on website orders. Save yourself time, & headaches, DO NOT purchase here. A big RIP-OFF company. Never again.

Products did not meet advertised quality and did not live.

Item Number 6216 Pecan trees 6 each. This item was advertised as being 1 to 3 foot trees. None of them met the minimum height. Item Number 6201 Butterfly Bush 4 each. These items are referred to as a bush; they were at best 6 inches tall and as small in diameter as spaghetti and far below implied advertised quality. Read Bud tree did not even start to grow after planting. Customer Service is terrible; a complete run around. provide all documentation and the just return it and give another requirement to meet. I will not use this company again.

Burgess Seed And Plant Company - Plants Review from Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan

Some years ago I received dead plants and immediately returned them. They were sent back to me with the note that I should try 45 days to grow first. I sent back after 45 days and they were returned with a note saying I should have returned them within 15 days. Another time I received plants 1/2 that were rotted and stinking mush. I returned immediately and never received a refund. I stopped 1/2 of the payment reflecting the 1/2 dead order.

No issues here

I have ordered from Burgess for the last few years, both seeds and seedlings. I have never had any problems or issues. Yes, the seedlings arrived looking like sticks. They were dormant. I soaked them in water, per the instructions, planted, fed and they grew and thrived. I have ordered several different vegetable plants (tomatoes - several varieties, pomegranates, potatoes, beans) and never had an issue. My mother in law even started ordering from them after seeing my plants thrive. I just wanted to leave my experience because I see tons of negative reviews on several sites, and I wanted to note that I have always had positive experiences with the company. Happy Gardening!

I've got to say that these reviews are out of control, I have purchased for years shrubs, bulbs, flowers,etc. At Burgess. One year I ordered the privy fence, well yes they looked dead, I put all 100 of them in a pail of water about a week later it started to bloom. Why don't you folks read directions? You know, the ones that come with every order. It seems that our society in the United States is one of demanding, cruel, and spoiled! The moment something goes wrong the calls start, then the threats. I have been in retail for over 26 years and you know when I will go out of the way to help you, its when your kind and respectful. The moment someone gets nasty I would shutdown, and it ruined the rest of the day. So please, the customer service department didn't plant this stuff!BE KIND! It goes a long way. Plus I believe nice people live longer.

Ordering seeds

I wanted to order a pkg of tomato seeds. It was 3 dollars per pack. I noticed shipping was 9 dollars for a very small pack of seeds, so I called them. Some *** said no problem, send us a check for the amount of the seeds and delete the seeds. I will drop them in an envelope and ship them to you. Well, today I got my check back and no seeds. They want 9 dollars for shipping. What a *** company. Ill never order again from them. I called them back and was talked to like a dog. They said that I was trying to change the company policies and that was not going to happen

I had a similar problem. never received part of order and another was DOA.After about 15 emails I did receive a 60% refund.

now my next adventure is trying to get a refund or replacement of the DOA items.Not a company to do business. Better choice is your local nursey .

Horrible company do not deal with them!

They send what they call dormant plants and ask you to give the plants 6 weeks to show life, however there refund policy is only 14 days from the date you receive your plants. That should tell you something right there.. They did replace 5 dead plants with 5 more dead plant, so now I have lost my money as they will not work with me. I feel I was cheated out of my money... My advise buy your plants in a pot from a local farm store or nursery or even walmart. (at least you will get something for your money) Good luck from Whitesville, Kentucky

RECEIVED DEAD TWIGS

I ordered 48 Canadian Hemlocks, paid extra to get the more mature plants. They arrived in the spring of 2013, a few had some green needles but most were bare twigs only about 6-8" tall instead of 1-2' as advertised. i also was told to wait 6 months. well the remaining needles fell off all the plants and they did not grow, they did give me credit so i placed an order of different types of plants. when that order arrived, 2 red maples that were dead, raspberry and blackberry bushes were dead, also hostas and lavendar. the strawberry plants seemed to be hearty. so about one month ago i again wrote a letter and sent my packaging slip as requested. i have not had a response. i will never order from them again.

Dead and moldy berry canes

I ordered $65 worth of berry bushes, strawberries and seeds from Burgess Seed Co. I received dead berry canes, some with white mold. Their directions stated that the moldy roots just be trimmed and that the plants would look dead even if they weren't and to WAIT 6 WEEKS. The wait 6 weeks was stated everywhere! So I did. Nothing grew. And while they did respond to my complaint email in a timely fashion, they will not do anything to help. I've had trouble with their seeds and I only have 3 live strawberries out of 25 to show for it. Total scam of a company.
